LOL. Yes, it was a joke. I should have put a wink emoticon, eh? |
| I wish Jeff would take down all of the anti-women posts. |
| Depressing. Even if the thread is taken down, the "fact" remains. I'm thirty. Is this really as good as it gets!? |
|
Look around you, honey. An entire generation of women refuses to vote for Hillary because she's old. So they're voting for the white guy that's 5 years older.
|
How do you get that it's about age? I think people want someone less "establishment" than Hillary. We're seeing that in both parties. I'd love for Hillary to come out as being far more to the left, so we could have a female Bernie. As for older women losing power, of course that's how it works in a patriarchy, which is set up to work best for men. Let's stop telling little girls they look pretty, as the default nicety we say in greeting to them. Let's stop valuing women so much on their looks and youth, and give more credit to mature women and our wealth of experience and wisdom. Let's stop commenting on Hillary Clinton's appearance. She's an ordinary-looking 68-year-old woman whose appearance should be irrelevant in her work. People only talk about prominent mens' appearances if they're practically circus freaks. |
Please elaborate. I feel this way too. I have no more power. Younger people, men in particular, look right through me. Nothing I've accomplished seems to mean anything because I'm too old, so last week. |
Do you think men feel the same? I'm guessing not, which makes me super sad. |
| That is the point pp. Older women are treated as "old" and less important. May karma come to the young ones who think they are different. |
Yes ladies, it's much the same for most men. Perhaps in certain career positions one can maintain their sense of power but most not as you get over 50-55. |
I think the only people who get away with aging are extremely good looking men who keep all of their hair and stay in shape. It's a tiny percentage of American men but yes they truly do gain power and get better looking as they age. The majority of men do not. Take a look at the older men in your office... |
That's why many men dye their hair and work out. Need to look young and vital. |
I can't believe you guys are so quick to throw Gloria Steinem under the bus. Gloria Steinem for god sakes! |
Yes. Those who have power don't lose it because they're older. However, if you get to be in your mid-fifties and haven't achieved a position of power, you're not going to. When you're younger, you still have potential. This is true for both sexes. |
It was a wry joke. Surely if you're over 50 you remember enough about Gloria Steinem and you're having enough of this exact experience in your own life to get why it is a particularly bitter joke. |
