Good places in Texas nearish Houston

Clear Lake - head to Kemah Boardwalk, they rebuilt the amusement park after Ike.

Museum of Natural Science/Houston Zoo/Children's Museum/Fine Art Museum
Menil Collection
Galveston - check out the beach, Victorian area around The Strand, Segway tours, tall ship, Moody Gardens (botanical/butterfly/IMAX) and SCHLITTERBAHN, historic Hotel Galvez, also the spa and central pool at the San Luis are pretty nice. Drive down to Jamaica Beach.
Fishing (rentals and charters out of Galveston or Kemah)
History/Hill Country day trip: driveup to Washington on the Brazos, there's a museum and historic farm, terrific bluebonnets, eat at a BBQ joint or Bevers Kitchen in cute downtown Chappell Hill or sandwiches and pie at Must Be Heaven in Brenham or swing through Roundtop to look at antiques.

The L'Auberge Casino at Lake Charles has a hotel and lazy river pool
The Lake Austin Spa Resort or the Omni Barton Creek might make a nice getaway (near Austin)

NP here. PP, where did you find these flights? I am a native Houstonian who would love to go there for Spring Break, but I couldn't find any flights under $350. Please tell!

Lots of great ideas here and I'll add just one more: if you're baseball fans, you might want to take in a game at Rice University. The Rice Owls are frequent College World Series contenders -- and you just might get to see a future MLB player, like Anthony Rendon, Rice '11.
