| So the discussion was about a Basis pk and up program.... I'm interested in Basis as an option for middle school, but I would be worried that the extremely academic model used for middle school doesn't really translate into the type of elementary I'd want to send my child to. You know? Would it be play-based? What would be the curriculum? |
The younger grades are supposed to be quite different than middle and upper. There is a video about K-4 on one of the Arizona schools websites but not a lot of details. http://www.basisorovalley.org/BASISVideos.aspx?blg=basis-oro-valley&_ga=1.29027068.1167412699.1454722219 |
That's illegal. The doctor makes the decision about whether a kid is ready to self carry and self administer emergency meds in DC, not the school Why do BASIS parents let the school push them around like that? Is the BASIS environment really worth risking your kid's life every day? Why? Because it lets you stay in DC? Because you can boast about how many AP's they took? |
| What Elementry doesn't have an onsite nurse? |
The above information is false and already has been posted in this thread as to the inaccuracy of these statements. Did you read any of the posts?
I will say once again that BASIS does allow student to carry meds for anaphylaxis and for asthma as specified in action plans as long as a doctor fills out the forms and specifies that said student can carry meds and self-administer. |
+1 The research is quite clear that play based is best for preschool. |

So, if BASIS fills up in elementary, where will Hill parents do middle school?
This may also have a positive spillover effect on Hardy. |
This is a good question. Also, wondering if they would try to get a nicer, bigger building if they are taking in a lot more students. |
Their plan is to get a new building and make the existing one 6-12. Different Head of School too. |
Agreed, if this has a bright side, it's this. And the Cap Hill parents will have a tough choice to make much earlier. |
| As a downtown parent, you may want to post this on our listservs. We would support this 1000%. |
| Will they even have real toys to play with in Kindergarten? Sorry, I don't want my kid making play with a slide rule. Pass. |
| If it open in the 2017-2018 school year, I wonder how many Brent and Watkins lower grade will jump to Basis. |
| Are they still saying Ms Sardek will be the elementary' new Head of School? She is ridiculously unqualified choice for the position. |
YY does. |
