Which Schools will have extended school year in 2016-2017?

So this is different from extended day, where they want to add an extra hour?

Do teachers vote on the ESY? Are they paid extra? What is the curriculum for those extra weeks?

There are schools where DCPS is trying to extend the school day but keep to the 180 instructional day limit. Other schools where they are extending the number of days.

To make this happen there has to be negotiation with the teachers union. That has slowed down the chancellor's plans.

Below is an article on Raymond's extended day program. It sounds like it is the only one in DC right now, though from PP's posts it sounds like the chancellor is negotiating for other schools to do this, too as of next year:

Oops, that should have read extended year program, not extended day

If Raymond is a pilot that is to run for 2 years, shouldn't we find out how well it worked at that campus before we start adding it to other schools? Based on the WAMU article, there is still another year to go on the pilot phase at Raymond.

I agree, but I don't think that's how Kaya sees it.

Well, it looks like they're going to announce the schools tomorrow. There was that whole survey that parents took to voice their opinions on extended day and extended year. I wonder if they even considered the survey results.

I can see they had the press conference because of twitter. But can't find the list. 10 schools, apparently.

"The ten new elementary and middle schools with extended year planned for the 2016/2017 school year:

Garfield Elementary School (Ward 8)
H.D. Cooke Elementary School (Ward 1)
Hart Middle School (Ward 8)
Hendley Elementary School (Ward 8)
Johnson Middle School (Ward 8)
Kelly Miller Middle School (Ward 7)
King Elementary School (Ward 8)
Randle Highlands Elementary School (Ward 7)
Thomas Elementary School (Ward 7)
Turner Elementary School (Ward 8)
DCPS selected the ten schools based on a mix of criteria, including: strong leadership in each school, active interest by the community (including students and parents), and student bodies that demonstrate room for growth."

I wonder how the H.D. Cooke parents feel about this. I'm only asking about that school because I've seen some talk on this site about that school.

Will the school loose its momentum because of extended day?
