Uh, what? You think it's more likely that someone would stalk you, collect your DNA, have it sequenced, and then expose the information than that a company like 23 and Me would experience some sort of data breach? That's crazy.

Correct. But that's because I have a deep understanding of network security and which practices are more or less likely to result in data breaches. But carry on.

I did it, and learned that both I and one of my sons are a carrier for a horrendous genetic disease. I will make sure my son is aware of this when the time comes, because his wife should have a genetic profile done up to ensure she is not also a carrier of the disease.

It also verified the story that my mother's father was a Colombian (she never knew him). I have many relatives in Colombia and am about 10% "native American' which is what they categorize natives of North or South America.

Did you find any relatives that were closer than 2nd cousins? The closest DNA match I've received is a 2nd cousin.

I have a friend whose then-unknown half sister came forward -- he didn't know his mom gave a baby up for adoption in high school. Kind of rattled the whole family.
