These work best after gently washing hands in warm water. They trap in the moisture. But the feel is disgusting and personally, I can't work with my hands after using them. I need to do it before I go to bed.

My hands have been so dry this winter I have fissures near my fingernails from washing them all the time. The backs of my hands are chapped, too. I have put cortisone on those spots, and then covered my hands multiple times a day with L'occitane hand cream (not lotion), or for a cheaper alternative, Lubriderm Daily Moisturizing Lotion. Both work really well for me. But I like the scent and texture of the L'occitane cream more.

I like Burt's Bees Almond Hand Creme (a somewhat greasy feeling afterwards though)
Glysomed in the tub--a bit hard to find but inexpensive--leaves hands feeling a little slippery but not greasy
Vaseline with gloves at night
Keefe's Working Hands
Nivea in the tub

Thanks for all these great suggestions!

I used a body scrub on my hands... i got it at Whole Foods ... it's basically sugar and a fragrance.

Then I used Coco Butter hand lotion from CVS (I think it is by Vaseline)

I was really surprised it worked, but my hands went from rough and cracking to smooth and soft.

NP- I need something that really absorbs well to moisturize. I've been using Nivea in the tin, the German made one but it hasn't helped. 5 minutes after slathering it on my hands feel dry and tight.

Any suggestions?

I have a bottle of this sitting on my desk, it works pretty well. I tried a sample of some lotion at MOM's yesterday and was impressed wit how soft my skin felt later. I did not get the name, but might have to buy a bottle (did not love the smell but oh well).

Also, wash your hands as infrequently as possible. I always wash mine when coming home from somewhere (library, metro, etc.), but have not been washing them after I pee. I know some of you will be up in arms about that, but my hands are so incredibly dry this winter, I just can't. I WFH so am not worried about touching door handles, etc. that lots of other people have.

Oh and I think it is time for a pair of kitchen gloves!

I like Curel hand & cuticle therapy. Works well without being greasy. Aquaphor/Eucerin are great, but only before bed.

Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream during the day. It absorbs quickly but moisturizes really well, and is unscented so it doesn't sting if your hands have cracked.

At night, slather on a generous amount of Aquaphor and put cotton gloves over your hands to keep the Aquaphor from wiping off and to help it absorb. If you don't have cotton gloves, socks work just as well.

L'Occitane hand cream is the best I've ever used. I got some as a Christmas gift and now I am an addict.

Aveeno or Nuetrogena

(non-scented)

Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream is a miracle worker but smells awful. Still, it heals my cracking, bloody hands in just 2 applications!
