When I follow the directions, I'm in extreme pain. I've done enough of these to know that drinking 16oz 1 hour before is horrible, horrible, horrible for me. Nothing is worse than sitting on the table waiting for them to transfer and you want to cry because you hurt so much. Then you have to wait 5-10 mins. So I know for me, 30 mins prior to the appt time is plenty of time for me to have a full bladder. Never had a problem with the transfer and I'm still comfortable. |
Right. But everyone is different. It may not be enough time for someone else, then there is a domino effect in the following appointments. And calling ahead won't help the person who is right after the slowpoke. We are all uncomfortable with a full bladder. That's just how FETs work. We're all in the same boat. |

If you've never done it before, I would follow the directions with the water. I've followed them all three times, first two were no problem, not too uncomfortable. Third time I was apparently dehydrated and the ultrasound wouldn't work, so they had me chug two bottles of water. (Luckily I think I was one of the last appointments of the day.)
Valium also helps. |
| OP here - my doc said to arrive at X time, and to aim for a full bladder 45 minutes later. Maybe I'll do a test run now - drink a glass and see how long before I need to pee. |
