My MIL won't wash her hands in the bathroom.

DIL - Bathroom monitor.

I'll bet money your husband doesn't wash his hands at all when he goes to the bathroom.

That is gross, but if you've addressed it directly with no result, it's time to move on. At least she's washing her hands...just keep Clorox wipes on hand to wipe down the door handle when she's not around.

What does your husband think/say about this, just out of curiosity?

That's really gross. Have your husband handle it.

+1

He's gotta do this, before the visit.

Here it is, may mother be FIL though.

This is so obviously the same OP.

OP, it's weird but not a big deal. You clearly aren't going to be able to change the behavior, so figure out how to make peace with it.

Well then. This is starting to seem more than a little trollish. I'm actually comforted by the idea that OP is not really that neurotic.

Do you have paper towels or guest towels (paper) in the bathroom? If not maybe she is grossed out by the communal towels in the bathroom and wants access to disposable towels in the kitchen.

I've talked about instilling good habits with DC, asked if there's a kind of soap/towel she'd prefer in there and straight up asked her to please wash her hands in the bathroom instead of the kitchen. It's a habit she has and does in her own home so she does it at others' as well.

There are no special towels, soaps etc in the bathroom that she may be worried to use. It's all the same stuff as in the kitchen. But she goes to the bathroom, wipes and then touches the door handle and whatever else she gets distracted by before she gets to the kitchen sink. Not to mention that she touches the faucet in the kitchen (where we prepare food, duh) to turn on the sink with her pee/poop hands.

Yes, I am somewhat of a germophobe. But why would someone bypass washing their hands in the bathroom in order to do it in the kitchen? She's coming to stay with us in a few days and I want to address it early on.

I know it could be worse and this is kind of a silly pet peeve but it is what it is.

How would you handle it?
Do you have paper guest towels in the powder room? Some people (myself included) cannot stand the thought of using a towel that someone else has wiped their hands on . Now that is gross.

She comes out of the bathroom with pee and poop on her hands? I can't say that I have ever seen adult get urine or feces all over their hands from wiping. Hmm...

Urine is not sterile once it leaves the body. She's weird and gross, OP

Does she have a phobia or OCD?

OP I feel your pain. I once had a household employee who used to drive me nuts. Luckily she was only in my house about 4 hours every other day. I started "hiding" the kitchen paper towel everytime she was around, thankfully she finally got to the habit of washing in the bathroom cos I was about to turning kitchen water off lol.

I'm with you, OP. It's gross! Can't you just ask her over and over? Laugh self-deprecatingly and say you're a fermi phone but bathroom germs at the kitchen sink just bother you.
Anonymous
Germophobe, not fermi phone. Wtf, phone?!
