Brag much? Being that even WOTP schools had a small % of 5s it's obvious that it was pretty rare to get a 5. Congrats but you don't need to make it out the way you are. |
NP. I for one am glad to hear that the kid got all 5s. At least DCPS is teaching and there is at least one kid who is doing well. Terrific job! |
Certainly but the "what's the fuss" about is not warranted. PP obviously knows she has a bright kid so don't make it seem like it's no big deal. It's like someone bragging about getting pregnant the first time amongst posters that have been trying for a while or bragging about your newborn that sleeps through the night, "no big deal, why is everyone fussing" |
I try not to go through life nitpicking and trying to find something negative about someone else's good news. |
|
PP, you're missing the point unless you are the snarky poster.
I will take the high road and ignore ignorance. |
The thread asked for results and thoughts. Those were mine. I am seeing other people posting 5s here. Not sure what you are so upset about. PP sn't the same person as me, BTW. |
I am also not the same person as immediate PP. Saying your kid got a 5 is fine and you will probably get congrats. When you unnecessarily add "I don't see what the fuss is about" it makes you seem like a bitch. Especially when 5s are very rare. Not like 20% of test takers got 5s, so it is obviously worth a fuss. Heck there weren't even many 5s in JKLM or Moco so mentioning it's not worth a fuss is pathetic. |
"The fuss" is not over my kid getting 5s. I said before I saw the test scores that I would be happy with a 3 or 4 in all areas because I had heard so much about how horrible the test is supposed to be. "The fuss" is over how horrible this test is supposed to be and how "every child" is doomed to flunk it. Obviously not, since a lot of people are posting 5s here. |
Please show where a lot of people here are posting 5s. You are the ONLY person that mentions a 5. What's the fuss? |
| My kid got a 3... And a 5. I was actually wondering how normal that was. Are 5s totally rare? Cause that makes me feel better about the 3. |
| Would be more helpful if we knew scores and the school. |
| Why does the school matter? You want to blame it for the 3 or praise it for the 5? |
| Anyway, I am happy about the 5. And no one really needs math anyway. I would probably get a 3 in third grade math too. |
|
What do people think of the scores showing how each child did relative to other students at the child's school?
I think knowing how your child did relative to the rest of DCPS and DC (I am assuming that means both DCPS and DCPCS) is useful but information specific to how your child did relative to peers at his/her school does not add a lot of value and could create a more competitive environment or disheartening to individual children. I say this as someone whose child did very well at a JKLM. |
The law jobs that many parents in upper NW rely on are drying up. The future belongs to people who understand statistics, databases, and coding. A rude awakening for the Janney Arnold and Porter contingent, to ne sure, but there's still time. Repent and Kumon. |
