These are great cruises but most High School kids will not enjoy getting a picture with Mickey.

They'd enjoy caribbean beaches, swimming with stingrays and dolphins, snorkeling, etc.

Grand canyon Colorado river rafting. We have been everywhere and this is hands down our favorite family vacation Hawaii had been number one, but GC was indescribably awesome.

If some of the kids have never been to Europe, I'd to a cruise -- either the Med or the Baltic. It's a great way to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Spend a few days in the departure port (such as Barcelona) then see Naples (Capri, Pompeii), Rome, Tuscany, the Riviera. Or the Baltic -- Stockholm, Copenhagen, Finland, St. Petersburg.

When I was in 4th grade my family took a trip to France for two weeks -- it was me, my parents and 3 of my 4 siblings. It was great. We stayed in Paris for a few days, then rented a big van and drove around the countryside to the chateaus and the Alps.

Wow, how boring is that?

Not sure if pp is joking, but hands down you should do Europe if you've never been.

OP here, thanks! We have been to Europe (well, Dh and I have been several times...and my older two have been, but not the younger two) but as individuals, not as a whole family.

A family trip to Europe would be excellent. I'm thinking that with 6 people, renting a car would be difficult and expensive. Should we plan to visit just major cities (maybe travel between cities via train?)

It's actually going to be far cheaper to rent one large vehicle and drive through Europe than it is to buy six train passes or individual tickets. www.autoeurope.com

If you go to Europe, don't limit yourselves to cities. I loved driving through the Cotswolds and wandering around little towns. And according to our cab driver on the way back to the airport, we missed lots of cool stuff.

Personally there is nothing less appealing than a cruise where you get very limited access to the location you are visiting and lots,of time stuck on a boat. Op,,Europe by train sounds like a great idea.

Yawn. Why are americans so into ireland? Its beautiful but so boring and white and blah and the food outside the big cities is so bland.

I'd do two separate vacations.

Heading to London this summer and planning to drive to Cotswolds - what would you recommend?
