It helps them justify the decision and it makes them feel better about themselves...and makes them feel like their child is special.

To the person who said public school kicks the curiosity out of kids, from what experience are you talking? That's a pretty sweeping and ignorant statement.

I will say it, "hell no" it is not worth 20+K/yr for pre-k but we are doing it. I don't need to convince myself that it's worth it because it isn't. We can afford it, our in-bound school is not an option and well... I just want my kid to go to private school period. FWIW, we got into a really good DCPS oob. It was a tough decision to forego the opportunity (free, great school, good test scores, small class sizes, etc...) and I think my kid would have done great there.

So, if the OOB school was that good, what made you go private? This a sincere question, not trying to be snarky.. How did it fall short compare to the private school you selected? Just curious...

I wish I could provide a really smart answer to your question but I can't. The OOB school is ranked in the DCPS "top ten" and I have several friends whose children attend. It is a very good DCPS option. It ultimately boiled down to choice. The school we chose will be an awesome fit for our kids and we know tons of families there. I went to a private/independent school so that weighed in and I just really, really, really like the private school we selected.

I wish I could offer more.
