Could you elaborate about "street crime"? Muggings? Housebreaks? I've never been a victim of crime, even in New York (although I've witnessed some). Don't want to start now. Silver Spring schools seem iffier than TP schools. Perhaps we'll retreat to Kensington....


You might want to see what the street crime map looks like for where you used to live in Manhattan. You may find that there was a lot more going on than you realized. Having these street crime maps (and neighborhood lists where people discuss crime) is a great help in a lot of ways but sometimes I think people don't realize that in the pre-web days all these things were going on in the neighborhood but you were less likely to hear about them.

Still you have to decide what you're willing to tolerate. But I suggest following the advice of the pp who suggested walking around and talking to locals. Collect more info before you decide one way or the other.
