And that's just the kind of information they could post on their website...like Janney! http://www.janneyschool.org/about/how-to-enroll/ a school I just crossed off my DC lottery list now that I know I wouldn't have a chance in hell of getting in as an out-of-boundary family. |
So you're not rich enough to afford a school you'd really like (apparently even one comparable to Barnard). And so you come on here to trash a school for not having a website?? You are definitely not "normal and nice go with the flow". You're nutty. The difference is, most of the truly nutty people in DC can afford to move to Janney where they belong. Good luck in Minnesota, or wherever you end up in a couple of years. |
Janney doesn't even offer PK3 at all. Spend some time on Myschooldc.org You have a lot to learn |
we're looking for a PK4 slot for our son. |
| You do realize that Dcps does not host school websites, right? It's typically the PTA or some engaged parent who makes it happen. If you're a parent at Barnard and the website is important to you, YOU need to donate some time and expertise to make it happen. If you're a parent who wants your school to be ready made without you having to lift a finger, time to move wotp. It takes time and consistent investment to build even the things we assume are standard, like websites. DCPS should be coordinating website efforts of their schools, but they don't. |
I wishfully thought the lack of online presence away and presto, conjured up a website for them: http://www.barnardelementary.org/ Jesus, it took about 30 seconds to find it. So you're a jerk and lazy, is that right? |

12:34, thanks. I was reading this on my phone so didn't look into myself, but was almost positive that I'd seen Barnard's website in the past.
Perhaps PP has never heard of Google. |
| It's OK, the Barnard website issue is reflective of the school's situation. We left it 2 years ago and I can say that at the time, the PTA was very old school and egalitarian, the fundraising was minimal, the previous PTA president didn't really do email, there were few extracurriculars offered that you might see organized by a wealthier/hands-on PTA at a WOTP with high expectations. I'm delighted they have a functioning website, someone put some time and effort into it...We couldn't be the change we wanted to see, we left for a school that had those things in place. But we still miss Grace Reid, the teachers, they have a good thing going at Barnard...it's getting so popular that they can afford to have an attitude, like LAMB, Yu Ying or Haynes i.e. if you don't want the spot, give it to someone who needs it. |
| Hi, It's the "where's the website poster" again. Thanks for sharing the website. I tried "The Google" again (smile) and it did come up after a few pages (https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=barnard+elementary+school+washington,+dc&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=barnard+elementary+school+washington,+dc&start=0). I really didn't think it existed, but I didn't keep clicking and clicking, next page, and next page. If I had, maybe I would have noticed it. The other school's pages just popped up. In any case, it's no matter. There is a perfectly fine, functioning website and now it's on this thread for everyone else who is curious to find and see. That said, my mistake unearthed a sad and ugly side of the "I love Barnard" community. I can only imagine what the other prospective parents who are sure to come across this DCUrbanMom thread will think, as the thread was easier to find than the website. #shame |
| You're not very self aware if you think this rejects poorly on anyone but you. I'm not a Barnard parent, I just despise jerks like you who like to crap on a rising school for no good reason. |
Not a Barnard parent, but think you're the only one who showed their ass in this thread. |
| You aren't prepared for DCPS if you are turned off by a lack of a website. (that actually exists) |
| We are a month in as a Barnard family and daughter is very happy and loving school, which is the most important thing for a 3 year old's school experience. Communication with our daughter's teacher is great - she uses Remind so we get classroom announcements and are able to text with her, we can get a quick update at drop-off or pickup, and we had all our outstanding questions answered at last week's back to school night. I'm not that concerned with schoolwide communications - what is important is communicating with our daughter's teacher who is with her everyday and that has been stellar. |
