You're looking for something LESS wholesome. Okay. There might be a reason why there isn't a whole lot of of fashion mags for 11 year olds.

I know you're not looking for that kind of thing, but the magazines from Cricket Media are really good quality. Muse would be the science mag for her age, and Cricket for literature. There are also history/archeology mags. just throwing it out there - maybe if she's exposed to better stuff, she might develop an interest.

OP here. We already get both Cricket and Muse, as well as American Girl and National Geographic Kids. But she is asking for a "fun" magazine that isn't school-y. She wants something with fashion, something girly, not Girl Scouty!

PP you responded to. That seems like mag overload. Drop the Nat Geo Kids, it's garbage (my kids read the regular Nat Geo). If she wants something more fashionable than American Girl, you can drop that as well. Honestly, Vogue isn't that inappropriate, particularly if she isn't going to read the long articles. At least she'll be exposed to world-renowned photographers, real haute couture and intelligent conversation, not dumbed-down fashion. And Vogue isn't as sexualised and vulgarly shrill as Cosmo et al.

Get her a subscription to the New Yorker. I wish somebody had done that for me when I was 11.

OP here -- the magazines we get are for all my kids, not just her. We also get Popular Science and Popular Mechanics and the Atlantic and the New Yorker and the Orion. I love magazines!!

She however is not a big reader, nor a strong one. But she asked for a "fun" teen fashion magazine subscription for Christmas. Maybe 17 isn't as old as I thought. But Girl's Life looks decent.

OP,

Perhaps you should've started this thread with a list of magazines that you currently subscribe to. Seems like most magazines people have suggested, you already have.

I said I was looking for a magazine for a girl who was into fashion, hair makeup but not quite as old as 17. The magazines we do subscribe to aren't anything about fashion hair and makeup. So I could have listed them, but why??

I got great leads, so thanks!

+1 I would sneak-read the NYers at my friend's house that were left lying around.

Also I don't think O (Oprah's magazine) is inappropriate at all nor is Real Simple. Both have fashion and stuff.

What?! Ok, they're not talking about sex and drugs, but what 11 year old is interested in "being your best self now" and how to organize your bathroom?

Shes not too young for Seventeen.

That article sounds OK to me. Girls in 6th grade are talking about boyfriends already. This article doesn't mention sex or anything of that nature, but asserts that your boy friend should tell people you are dating (be proud of you) pay attention to you, call you by your right name, be interested in meeting your friends and family, and do stuff with you like go out on dates. Positive messages.
