Networth as a multiple of your income

Don't know. Want to be able to retire at 55 or so.

I don't know how on earth some of these multiples are possible unless people had a windfall (maybe in real estate) or a big inheritance.

we're at about 14 times. Includes an inheritance (not huge), and significant home equity. In 40s so had the benefit of years of investing. But we also currently have a relatively low HHI (for dcum not for the real world), so our overall number is probably lower than most here.

Please share:

1. The ratio of your net worth to your HHI. E.g. is your net worth 5 times your HHI, or 0.2 times?
2. Your age
3. Age at which you intend or hope to retire

1)~15x no inheritance
2) We are 51 and 55
3) Retire when the 55 year old is 60-65, depending on what the job is. Our plan is to have older partner to get 1-3 year jobs overseas at the end of career. If possible at least two stints in two different parts of the world. Partner will be overqualified but able, but as long as we can cover our costs, we will take advantage of our location and travel around.

We got here by always, since first jobs in mid 20's putting in max possible into 401ks and Roth IRAs and is most of the 15x. The net house worth is ~3x, HHI, about half due to increased value and about half due to paying off and using savings for addition. HHI has never been above $200k, but consistantly over $150k in past 10 years.

Same here. I started working at 14. I worked all through college and paid cash as I went along. I took 2 jobs over the summers. I took 18 months off after the birth of my first child which is the only time I've not worked for the last 26 years. I'm someone who just works. It's me. I've never had an issue working hard and long hours. Can't really see myself retiring. I actually like working. I definitely will scale back, but quit entirely? I think that leads your brain to deteroriation.
