I love Caps hockey, but, yeah, for family friendly, I'd go to a game against a western conference opponent, one of the Canadian teams, Carolina, or Florida. The classic Patrick division opponents, Boston, and Buffalo pack in all their fans that have moved here and like to get drunk and run their mouths.

If hockey tickets are out of reach because of price, the Caps practice in Ballston and its open to the public. For the little kids, this is great because the Verizon Center is way too loud for them and getting them to sit through an entire game is damn near impossible. But free practice, where you can move around, sit on the glass, and see players up close? Awesome.
