If you have already applied, there is no need to discuss with teacher unless your child is accepted. But if you just want to get a sense of the teachers opinion then it can't hurt.
I agree you should ask about compacted math. |

With first child, I didn't mention it at all. We had plenty of other things to talk about. He was accepted.
With second child, I let the teacher know that we were applying for him and was told "of course you are and I have lots already to write about him." He also got in. So, whichever way you go, it shouldn't matter too much. |
| We mentioned it last year and sought advice on whether the 3rd grade teacher knew about the program and whether our child would be a good fit, etc. She gave us a good perspective. |
|
1st child: We asked 3rd grade teacher and she didn't say much. Once child was accepted, she had a lot more to say.
2nd child: Teacher asked during PT conference if we'd applied. We said yes and she said that was a good decision. I don't think either conversation made a difference wrt acceptance. We met with each teacher after acceptance. |
| How do second graders get evaluated for GT? Is it a test and/or a formal process? |
They all take the InView test in 2nd grade. There is no application process in 2nd grade. Application is in 3rd grade, and they take a separate HGC test in 3rd. Application is optional, and not tied to 2nd grade InView test. You can apply your DC even if your DC didn't get very high Inview test scores. |
Thanks, do you know when the Inview tests are given in 2nd grade? I'm trying to figure out if my daughter has taken it already. Our school doesn't always communicate when tests are given. |
| We just got a note that they are starting the Inview tests in December at our school. Seems awfully early. |
Look here: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/sharedaccountability/calendar/estesting.aspx |
That's interesting. Based on that link, there are some 3, 4, 5 graders taking Inview. Anyone know what that would be for? |
| 3rd, 4th, &5th graders take in view if they are new to MCPS- kids who moved in after the 2nd grade testing was done |
| You can also request a retake of the Inview if something was off in 2nd grade, or you were very close to the G/T cutoff. (Reevaluation) |
