May have just accidentally found out the baby's sex at my 32w U/S!!

My husband was really worried at the 12w u/s because he thought he saw the gender on the screen. It said "Indication: Female" I finally convinced him there was no way the u/s tech had determined gender at 12 weeks, and that the default is probably "female" until they see something that indicates male. At our 20w u/s we told the tech we didn't want to know, and he told me he wouldn't even look. So if it said something like "Indication: F" it might have just been the default setting.

My DH didn't want to know but I did. So when I found out at 20 weeks, I decide to keep the secret for another 20 weeks!!! I also chose not to tell anyone else for fear of it getting back to DH. Then at about 35 weeks, I slipped out a "She." It was soooo awful and I couldn't cover it up or take it back. He was at first angry and upset, but then really really happy.

It worked out because we got to then do the nursery, but I did (and still do) feel bad about that. At 35 weeks, I was so uncomfortable and I think, literally not functioning cognitively, otherwise I might have been more careful.

If they have written "female" on the report, I think it was referring to you. My ultrasound pics have had that on them I think, and I had boys. When I wanted to know with the last one they had some kind of thing they put which said "I'm a girl" on the photo which showed that part of her, but it has never been on any reports except chromosomal ones.

As opposed to what? Her husband - the male - who needed an ultra sound of his uterus?

I'd let your DH decide if he wants to know what you saw or not. And since you don't know for sure, it's still a surprise, right?

For our second baby, our sonogram technician slipped up and told us at our 20 week. We'd told her we did not want to know when we first got there. She said she would use the feminine pronoun when referring to the baby no matter the sex (she, her), and she did. DH and I averted our eyes any time she said she was in the region that might show the sex. I wanted that surprise as I had LOVED not knowing with our first.

When we were all though and the tech was bidding us good-bye, she said, "You have a very healthy baby bo--" and she stopped flat. She stammered and blushed and tried to cover her tracks, but all was lost.

We were so upset at finding out when we didn't want to, but to decided we wouldn't tell anyone we knew. WE continued to tell people when they asked, "It's a surprise," because we figured it was indeed a surprise to them!

OP here - the screen did say "female" which is what gives me hope that it was referring to me and not the baby. And yes, I dont imagine that any men are getting sonograms in my OB's office but its part of a greater hospital system and men do have ultrasounds for other things... I am just clinging to whatever doubt I can find.

And I'm not telling DH that I may or may not have seen anything - why ruin it for him too?

This is a late response, but I'm sure the Female referred to you - this happened to my neighbor. She saw Female, and freaked and her and her husband wound up opening up the envelope they saved w/ the sex written inside incase they ever changed their mind. Turns out it was a boy. The ultrasound machine may only be used on women in your OB/GYN practice, but that doesn't meant it isn't capable of scanning men for other things. It will always say Female, referring to you.
