The place in Kensington is private pay.

They're all shitty. I know. That's why Mom kept my father home and paid for his care out of pocket for 6 years. Brooke Grove, however, is MUCH better than many of the other places we visited, and we traveled to many, many places.

That's great if you can afford it to keep your father home. We tried it and its not an option for us. Nor is Brook Grove.

Is medical care needed around the clock then?

Dad was mostly bedridden b/c he had lost much of his ability to walk from Parkinson's. It was cheaper to keep him home with 12-hour care. I believe at the time home care was $65K a year, which was about $20K cheaper than keeping him in a home. Mom couldn't stand the homes anyway. So they really weren't an option for her.

However, if he had mobility and had been a wanderer, which is what often happens with forms of dementia, she would have had to place him in facility with 24-hour care. But they are expensive. And I do believe BG is around $7K a month - or over $80K a year. That's someone's salary.

The person cannot care for themselves. No wandering, mobile. The person does not have a home or spouse. We tried caring in our home and without supports due to income it was very difficult and not doable for long term.

BG is not $7K a month. Its almost twice that without extras they charge without explaination.

I have recent experience at BG with a relative. A semi-private room in the memory unit runs about $350 per day (or $10.5k per month). A private room is about $400 per day. The way it works for any nursing facility is that the room is paid by the patient until the money runs out, and then Medicaid takes over. Brook Grove will help you prepare for the switch over to Medicaid.

General FYI: this is Arden Courts on Knowles Ave.

They do not accept medicaid. Many of the nursing homes do not or they tell you yes, and put you on the wait list. We've been on the waitlist for several years at some. (i.e. apply, waste your time but we will never take your loved one).

BG is not an option. Thank you. Medicaid is not an issue either. Been approved. Just trying to find options beyond BG that others have had positive experiences at.
