Seems like you should have access to at least competent college counselors at a Big 3. What have they suggested based on the experiences of others at your school with similar profiles?
I'd look at schools like Northeastern, Colgate (reach), Boston College (reach), Wake Forest for midsize. Maybe Trinity, Dickinson, Conn College, Kenyon for SLACs. |
| 35 is 99.5 plus and 800 math is good. |
| This is a private school student, from a wealthy, elite school, my guess is they will want private (even if they briefly consider otherwise) Op, student probably has SLAC choices of all but the very top. |
| Reed, Colgate, Lafayette, Elon, St Mary's ( Maryland State SLAC) |
| My all private school kid opted for a very large and very public research university and is thrilled. Couldn't wait to be in a bigger pond. Also aced the math portion. Look carefully at the sat range of scores for schools you are considering. DD found one where her profile fit perfectly. Nearly every student in all majors excelled in math but reading was only adequately high. She is surrounded by math smart people at a school that is highly ranked in engineering and computer science but also has a respected business major. Those sat ranges the school provides gives a clue to the makeup of the student body. Look into the data behind admissions and get a feel for what the school values. It is nuanced but still a factor. |
| Btw your student's major would go a long way towards helping narrow down suggestions. |
| you should probably take a shot at a couple of elite schools but keep a few safety schools as well. such is the price of inconsistency |
| I cannot believe that a kid with those test scores cannot get into elite schools. The GPA is so dependent on the school and classes taken. Wow, my kids are MS but this is an eye opener for me. I don't dispute any of it because I do not know but this is just shocking..... |
| she has no idea about a major. probably not English or foreign languages, but everything else is on the table. |
| Sciences might help |
Remember that there are just so many elite seats available. When the time comes, you will see that your college applicant will be competing with thousands of kids with comparable good grades and scores. Not only that, your child will be also be competing for seats for ED and possibly RD. UPenn admitted a whopping 54% of its 2020 freshman class ED. Since your kids are in MS, you have time to research and reflect on this. |
And the remaining 46% at regular decision seats will compete with new applicants and those deferred from early decision. Some ED programs don't defer. |
With a 3.1,Kenyon,, Colgate and Wake are out...each is now down below 30% acceptance rates.. |
Maybe not with high scores though. My DC had a lower GPA and lower scores and was WL at all 3 of those. A bit higher on both could have made a difference. Wake cares a lot about APs for some reason, so that's a factor. |
| If female, look at the 7 Sisters. |
