| UMass Amherst |
| Op it might matter what college within the university she applies to - as to how competitive. Something to research. |
| Some don't know that St. Mary's in MD is public and it is a good place with a lovely campus. |
| University of Washington, University of Minnesota, University of Vermont, University of Montana (niece LOVED it there for her semester program). |
Oh, c'mon. That's a community college on stilts, not a world class university. |
It is access to 4 other liberal arts colleges, and a vast range of majors and programs. Like Wisconsin , many fantastic student run clubs and organizations. |
UW Madison is 40% OOS students. Many students from the East Coast, California, MN, Chicago area, and international. |
| The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is very nice. Not on a lake but it's Michigan so she is never far from one. |
| My brother started college at a UW satellite school, got good grades, and then transferred to Madison with ease. At the time it was a cheaper way to get a UW Madison degree. Not sure if this strategy is still used, but I believe the UW system schools have easier admissions. |
| IU Bloomington, definitely. Cool school, great town. U of Minnesota is a really nice school too. I have friends and family that went to both (and also to UW). |
Montana is in a great town - missoula is really cool and has amazing access to top outdoors stuff. |
Yes, the other state schools all have easier admissions (usually much easier). Amongst themselves, they vary as to their competitiveness, but they are all easier to get into than Madison. And, there are always a number of students who start at one of those schools and later transfer to Madison. |
Michigan is very competitive to get into from out of state. OP - take a look at University of Vermont. It's a beautiful town and I believe it is a little less competitive for admissions. |
And on the water. Also, UVM. |
