I have a whole shelf of these books: Into thin air, The climb, all of Frank Smythe, Eric Shipton and Bill Tilman, the ones on K2, Annapurna and several more on my Kindle. A lot of the authors and characters featured died in the mountains. I grew up in India but never visited the Himalayas so it is thrilling to read all these stories.
My favorite however is 'Breaking Trail' by Arlene Blum, a scientist and pioneering woman climber. More to the topic, Jon Krakauer has trashed the Everest movie and recommended people read his book instead! |

I finally finished! Anyone else?
I must say I trudged through it and didn't enjoy it at all. |
That's how I felt when I read it at age 18. And I'm a climber and find mountains interesting. |
