Should I make my 6 year old wear a wetsuit

I'd probably try a long-sleeved rash guard first. I often wear mine in the pool because I absolutely freeze when the pool is less than 83 degrees.

DS wears a wetsuit. He is too lean to feel comfortable in pool water. He won't get in the water without his wetsuit.

But using one to learn is actually a problem because it will hide flaws in his stroke if his hips and legs would otherwise sink but are kept floating solely due to the buoyancy of the wetsuit.

A wetsuit is a stupid idea for a preteam swimmer. It's a cheat and keeps him from learning better stroke technique.

Well if the alternative is being too cold to actively learn anything, wetsuit is not that a bad idea.

Its not a stupid idea as not all pools are well heated. We got our son one and my husband goes in after class and I had to get him a wetsuit too.

A rash guard does not keep you warm like a wetsuit.
