Kitchen Renovation Before or After Baby Comes?

Anonymous
I'm at 18 weeks and looking into the same project. We just had some windows replaced, and I was a little freaked out by the dust and the exposure to whatever's inside our 100-year-old house's walls, but I was adamant about getting things done before there was an actual baby whose napping, bottle washing, and breathing could be affected. I'm sure our kitchen remodel will take longer than the month some of the others have mentioned -- we need to knock out a load-bearing wall and move the stove and sink -- so I'm hoping to get everything done over the summer (due in Sep.). If not, plan B is to knock out the wall and do the floors and gas/water moving stuff now, and wait another year or so to do cabinets, counters, etc. That also spaces out the cost. Good luck, and if you've found a contractor you love, please post their company's name.

We just finished our kitchen (I am 35 weeks) and can't imagine doing it with a baby! If anyone needs a great kitchen contractor in the area (we live in NOVA) please call Alex Cho: http://www.dacustominteriors.com/

We didn't know where to find a contractor and he came recommended by our close friends. He does everything - only subs out the granite so things move fast!

He is a pleasure to work with, detailed, clean and very respectful of your home. I can't say enough good things about him and I love our new kitchen. 10 times better than I expected.

A year or two after the baby comes. You don't want to expose your child in utero nor as a baby to lead paint dust, etc.
