Ok, I can't believe that I remember this, but when I was in college, I took a women's studies course (natch) where the professor told us that in pagan Britain, women would pick an attractive man at Beltane, take him out in the fields, enjoy his company for the night, and wear the green stains on their clothing as a source of pride the next day. It was a fertility ritual for the benefit of the farmers and if a baby arrived the following spring, more's the better. No one worried about the paternity of the child.
I think she should look at this child as a Beltane baby and move on.
