| I have a few friends that live in Oakton. They say that the commute to Arlington and DC is hell, but they LOVE their neighborhood. When we go visit it makes us want to move there too! Lots of young kids, big lots, and neighbors who were so friendly. |
| We live in Oakton near Miller Road. We like the size of the larger lots and the fact that we're somewhat nestled into the woods (except when we're bagging leaves). We don't like the lack of walkability or public transportation. There are lots of families with youngish children around, but the social environment is very cliquish and there seems to be a strange SAHM vs WM dynamic -- but I figure that may be unavoidable around here. |
| Oakton is wonderful. Quiet, peaceful, lots of wild life. A great place to raise children. |
| Oakton elementary school is nice. |

| OP - Did you choose yet? |
| Vienna has a small town feel with a real sense of community. |
| Oakton is really nice- I'd say it's a bit more for families that want a little larger yard and wooded areas. There are miles and miles of nature trails that surround many of the neighborhoods. We live in Oakton and are very happy here. I agree, Vienna feels like more of a small town, and we do a lot of the Vienna events- Halloween Parade, etc, but there is also a strong sense of community in Oakton. Once you pull off the major routes and into Oakton, you really feel like you are getting away from the busy region we live in and it's very peaceful. Both areas are really nice and the schools are solid in both towns. Keep in mind that parts of Oakton are closer to DC than parts of Vienna, the boundaries are a bit confusing. I'd spend time in both areas and see what appeals most. |
I'm the OP No. We are visiting open houses. We plan to buy based on neighborhood/ exact house in spring. I would guess oakton though. We like the more neighborhood feel. |

It really doesn't. It has one short cute street (Church St) and is full of snobs. I came from a small town and was devastated at how oversold Vienna was. Not friendly or fun. |
| People move to Vienna thinking it is like a small town. But it is a busy suburb surrounded by more suburbs. The small town thing was 30+ years ago. |
| I don't get the "small town" thing either. We've lived in Vienna for 4 yrs now & it still doesn't feel like home. I had more sense of community in the townhouse community we came from. |
Only the Pimmit Hills troll jealous of Madison posts these stupid gifs. |
Yes what small town has strip malls and endless traffic as a main thoroughfare from fairfax to Tysons. |
