We have dwarf rabbits. They can be litter box trained.
They are very sweet and my kids love them. Ours live in a rabbit hutch, but some people let them run free in their house. We have a dog, so that's not an option.

May I suggest a bearded dragon instead? They are easy, docile, social lizards. We have a great time with ours. They like to be held, sunbathe in the window, and are even calm enough to play with.

I have mice in my house right now. You are welcome to come have them - these guys trap easily with peanut butter.
