If it makes you feel better we had a vacation planned the week before school started when my son was due to start school at LBSS so we missed open house. He had never ridden a bus before. We had dropped by the school and sort of wandered the hallways giving him an idea as to where the various different classes were although we didn't have a schedule so we couldn't locate his specific classrooms.

First day, I put him on the bus with a schedule and a map of the school that I had picked up in the office. That was it. He figured it out.

They will not be mailing it, from what they say. We have to go to the back to school night, get our credentials, and use it to login to look at the schedule.

Back to school night is usually a week after school starts. Why would they give you a bus schedule then? That doesn't make sense.
Are you sure your nit misunderstanding Op? Basically, you have 2 pages of posts telling you to hang tight until you get it in the mail. You're not getting it any sooner, like or not.

I think she is talking about orientation when the students go pick up their schedules, find their classrooms, set up their lockers. If your child has a student ID number you should be able to login to their account. I seem to remember getting emails from the school Blackboard and being able to check my son's schedule and bus stop info when we were on vacation. When we got home I'm pretty sure that they had also mailed us bus stop info. But none of that was available before we went on vacation. It didn't become available until orientation day.

Also, OP, most MS and HS have their big open house type things that last week before school starts. Kids get their lockers, you can buy gym uniforms, etc. You obviously have to go on vacation when it's best for your family but if you choose to skip this event, you need to be willing to do the stuff on your own within the rules that work for the school. I can't think of any school who would publish a bus schedule before they send out the beginning of year packets. They have not been finalized, especially with the changes this year. Your neighbors will be your best resources.

You don't have to rely on the neighbors. You really don't. The school will get you the info, just don't expect to get any info earlier than anybody else.

The event they told us to come to is 9/2/15. Which is not after school starts. They have a cute name for it like, "Titans Night" or something.

Yeah, it's the open house or orientation that all the schools have. That is when the info will be available. Not before.

My objection is that they are getting the info to us so late. I don't think it's reasonable to tell parents they can't have a bus schedule for 1) a new middle school for rising 7th grader with 2) a completely revamped school schedule due to bell changes until 3) September 2 for a school year that starts September 8. Do other people really not have multiple children, commutes, drop offs and child care to coordinate?

Obviously I'm the only one who thinks this is such late notice as to be objectionable. Good to know....

They aren't getting the info to you late, they are simply not giving it to you early. And, yes, I have more than one child with different school start schedules. I remember being just as anxious to have all my ducks in a row before I went on vacation. I really did not want to come home after 2 weeks at the beach and then have all of these logistics to figure out. But it all worked out.

Worst thing - you drive them the first day.

OMG. Use logic. They have posted the start times, just subtract 40 minutes from that. It will be within 20 minutes of that time. Does it really matter to the minute?

If this is your biggest fish to fry, you lead a charmed life. This type of thing isn't even on my radar screen. I am too busy solving and dealing with the issues of real life.

And yes PP what was I thinking taking my children to see their grandparents the last two weeks of the summer. Since of course that's when there's no SACC child care program and the time when we therefore take a vacation.

SO, take them for 10 days and come back for the open house. No big deal.

Uh, yeah. Actually it does matter if your kid shows up to the bus stop 5 or 20 minutes late. And it does matter if your kid gets on the right bus in the morning and if your kids' schedule is right.

They're not getting the info to you late. This is when it gets published each year.....to everyone. People have kids in multiple schools and it all works out. It can feel overwhelming when your oldest heads to MS but you'll be more familiar with the timeline when your next one gets there. You may also notice that the info from MS and HS does not always provide the same lead time and detail level as the ES. But again, it all works out.

The buses never run to schedule the first week of school anyway, so the schedule is only a very general guideline of when to expect the bus.

The first week there are bus stops with more kids than anticipated, less kids than anticipated, families doing drop off instead of the bus, overcrowded bus routes that need to be split and might result in tue first 2/3 kids being picked up and the rest having to wait for a replacememt bus.

Just use the 40 minute formula from PP for the first day.
