Quitting before finding another job

Yikes that scares me. He's hanging in there but I worry one more bad day could put him over the edge.

What type of financial analyst -- at an operating company or an investment bank or hedge fund? The more junior he is, the easier it will be to find a job.

If he quits - could you get by for 2 yrs without his income? That's what I'd plan for though hopefully he'd be back in a few months. Also - what's his network like? Any chance he has a mentor or two that's well settled that he could reach out to and say he needs out? Those kinds of people tend to know if xyz is hiring. And how do you think he'd react to not working? Would he take it in stride or be a stressed out mess the whole time?

You also have negotiating leverage when you have a current job. Usually you will get a 10% plus raise. I've hired a couple unemployed people and they accepted a 5%-10% pay cut, because they had no other options.

My brother quit a job twice, and went 2 years each time before he found a new job.

Tell your DH to start the job search now, and just mentally disengage from his current job. He will be much better off

What's the market like for CPAs who do financial reporting? Also, what is wrong with him doing consulting if he quits?
