Marie as a first name?

I have never heard anybody in the US pronounce Marie as MAR-ee. Never.

I did know a Mari, whose name was pronounced MAR-ee.

Great name--go for it!

I think it's pretty and classic. And it feels unusual, just because it's not used as often anymore.

My daughter's middle name is Marie, and I'm sure everyone thinks it's a "throwaway" middle name, but it's actually honoring a family member.

That's because it is pronounced that way in different languages.

You are too smart, aren't you? I was talking about people for whom English is a first (and most likely, only) language.

My grandmother is Maria, and I don't seem to ever hear it on little kids, if I were having a girl I'd strongly consider it because it is simply yet pretty and reflects our language of origin (which it does for several languages I suppose) and also my grandma rocks my socks.

I like it as a first name. There were several names we liked that sounded like our cat's name and we had to eliminate them, we just couldn't do it.

What's your pet's name??

We have friends who just used this name and I thought it was a nice option. A common name that you don't hear often.

My MIL's name. Lovely. If we'd had another girl, we would have used it for a middle name without a second thought.
