I have never heard anybody in the US pronounce Marie as MAR-ee. Never. I did know a Mari, whose name was pronounced MAR-ee. |
| Great name--go for it! |
|
I think it's pretty and classic. And it feels unusual, just because it's not used as often anymore.
My daughter's middle name is Marie, and I'm sure everyone thinks it's a "throwaway" middle name, but it's actually honoring a family member. |
You are too smart, aren't you? I was talking about people for whom English is a first (and most likely, only) language. |
My grandmother is Maria, and I don't seem to ever hear it on little kids, if I were having a girl I'd strongly consider it because it is simply yet pretty and reflects our language of origin (which it does for several languages I suppose) and also my grandma rocks my socks. |
| I like it as a first name. There were several names we liked that sounded like our cat's name and we had to eliminate them, we just couldn't do it. |
| What's your pet's name?? |
| We have friends who just used this name and I thought it was a nice option. A common name that you don't hear often. |
| My MIL's name. Lovely. If we'd had another girl, we would have used it for a middle name without a second thought. |
