I wasn't commenting on the prayer partner aspect -I was commenting on being a hypocrite..which Sarah Palin is not. Agreed on abortion pp--too many people use the popular branding bs..choice, right to privacy etc. and somehow gloss over what it really is. I can't imagaine seeing a baby murdered but that is what it is and I don't care how you paint it..it just is. |
I don't think it helps to blur the difference between a baby and an embryo or fetus. It's a complex issue, and calling some important concerns "bs", or failing to distinguish between a month after conception and a month before delivery does not help. Despite our differences, we ought to be able to work together to help women avoid being in the situation of having to make that decision. |
I don't miss Sarah Palin at all, but what she said doesn't sound terrible - thanks for the video link PP. If I wanted someone to pray with, me too, I would choose my daughter over a colleague. It doesn't mean that I am sneering at my colleagues, or disrespecting them, but it would simply look even funnier Sarah Palin holding Mc Cain's hands (or anyone else's from the team) and praying - doubt it would give her the inner strength and tranquility. |
and liberals would say she is being over the top and forcing her religion on people. She can't win. Regarding abortion-it's a life from conception on and for years I wanted to pretend that there is a gray area and there really isn't because sometimes life is just not easy and I see that people don't want to look at the reality of the situation because they don't want to see themselves as a murderer. I do think a good step in the right direction would be to ban third term abortion--Obama supports this and then work on getting second term banned and then finally all abortions. |
Finally got around to listening to the clip. I'm not offended that she didn't want to pray with McCain staffers but I can see why they might be offended by the way she characterized this.
However, what I do find disturbing is that she asked for God to speak or work through her instead of asking God to help her do her best. This is what is scary to me about Sarah Palin, in particular, and some evangelicals generally. I'm all for live-and-let-live. If you want to pray with someone before a debate, that's not my cup of tea but I'm fine with it if that's what you want. But somehow you think that God is on your side and telling you what's right. (And Sarah Palin has been shown on video suggesting that God has got something to making her governor of Alaska.) So what does that make me (and Joe Biden, for that matter) -- on the side of Satan? I would not want someone in power with that kind of belief -- and it doesn't matter whether they're Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists or even old-line Communists who think that history determines that the state will whither away eventually. That's pretty creepy. |
How can I miss her when she won't go away? |
like a Herpes outbreak |
OT - but set your DVR's Monday for the Tyra Banks Show. Levi, his mom and sister are going to be on! |
It's sad that he's trying to capitalize on his baby and his famous ex. On the other hand, Palin did use her kids as props during the election, so I guess he has a right to do the same. |
I think you have gotten pretty off track here. Just because she was asking God to let her be a vehicle for His word, does not mean she was saying "Hey, I'm God's Candidate"! Joe Biden could have said the same prayer and the same time and they would not be in conflict with one another. The problem is that you are only looking at the debate in terms of one winner and one loser. The more important aspect of the debate is getting voters to think and cosider where they stand in terms of certain issues. It might not even impact how they vote, but if it impacts how they act, that can be just as important. In addition, our democratic process sets the tone for much of the world -- so it is good to see the different parties engage in civil debate, people voting with out fear of violence, and peaceful transition of power. |
Agree that the point is to get people to consider the issues and see real debate. But you missed the point I was making -- it is scary when someone decides that they have God on their side and that God will speak through them, the implication being, unmistakably that the other side does not have God speaking through them. Do you think that Sarah Palin thought that God was speaking through Joe Biden? I highly doubt it. Like I said, people like that, whatever their religion, scare me. |
Disagree. Just because you ask God to be a vehicle for his word, does not mean that your opponent is for Satan. What I was trying to point out is that there is a larger picture that extends beyond any particular candidate. Remember that Christians believe we are all God's children. In most cases a "parent" does not show preference for one child over another, therefore why would God chose one child over another? I think if you ask Sarah Palin this, that she would agree. |
Simply put - there's NO room for religion in politics. |
Sarah Palin has been filmed saying essentially that her becoming governor was God's work. If Sarah Palin doesn't think that God chooses one child over another, why does she think that God has something to do with her becoming governor? If you heard Ahmedinijad say that about him becoming President of Iran, you would be very concerned. But if a Christian says it, it's okay. You have a blind spot about the kind of thinking behind the statements that Sarah Palin and others like her make and you don't want to face it. That concerns me as well. I don't think this is good for the future of democracy. We're going to have to agree to disagree on this. We're not going to convince each other. |
