Catholic Grade School Tuition and Benefits

Anonymous
We switched from public to private. Tuition for us is about 7k in MD - we are happy with the school - strong community, involved families and staff, and faith foundation. Best decision we made - don't know if we can afford beyond elementary, but we have no regrets and only wish we had made the change earlier.

I think our tuition is just about $10k this year.

Not many Catholics need to be told the value and even the costs of Catholic schools. They may not send their kids to one, but they certainly know what the deal is. As has been stated in other threads, Catholic schools are generally very important to Catholics in maintaining the community and in building and reinforcing the Faith.

It seems likely that the PP is a not a Catholic given her/his unfamiliarity with what Catholic schools are and what they are designed to do. In that case the question perhaps should have been more precisely asked.

I don't think OP is out of line as a Catholic or a non-Catholic. I grew up Catholic but went to public school in virginia where my parish did not have a school. I knew very little about catholic schools and their value. I did know I didn't like CCD! We have been very happy with catholic education for our kids in k-8 school. One observation is catholic school kids tend to stay kids longer.

I would argue that it isn't just catholic school kids who tend to stay kids longer, I think it is something you see across the board at most K-8 schools. The K-8 model really keeps middle school kids grounded - they are not aspiring to be like the high school kids (in K-12) and they have the younger kids on campus which makes them the role models, etc (something that you don't get in public 6-8)

We only started schooling our kids in Catholic schools. The reason: we have observed that children schooled in Catholic schools tend to be more polite and respectful in life. The public school kids in our very wealthy community tend to act like spoiled brats. Not saying all public school kids are spoiled...just that they act that way.

I went to a catholic school from k-12. By the time of graduation, a lot of the kids were hard core atheists.

Sorry that was your experience, but it wasn't mine. We're still pretty engaged 25 years later. My class in particular had three enter religious orders.
