PK3 chances

I dont think that there will be a 30% chance of getting a inbound PK3 spot in three years. I understand that next year only inbound siblings will make the cut. Hopefully it won't be like Brent where inbound siblings don't always get in either.

Be flexible! Appletree LP and OK are great, as is Miner (Reggio Emilia program)! Or you could luck into an amazing charter like us!

What's your amazing charter?

Rather not say as it would be fairly easy to identify my kids. There are a lot of great charters drivable from the Hill. Yes it's difficult to get in, but you never know. Honestly you're almost certain to get in Appletree Lincoln Park, and you have Maury when the twins are ready for kindergarten. You're set!

I'm pregnant with twins and feeling overwhelmed as I consider childcare options. Looking forward, I was wondering what are the chances of my children getting into a PK3 program if we're willing to go anywhere in the city? We live in-bounds for Maury in Capitol Hill if that matters.

Anywhere in the city?

Then your odds are 100%. About a third of the DCPS PK3 schools go through both Round 1 and Round 2 of the lottery without being able to give away all their opening (e.g. Walker Jones). Now, many of those are shitty schools with horrible test scores. If you want a good school, play the lottery. If you want popular school, play the lottery and hope to get exceptionally lucky.
