How to relax earlier in the vacation week

You could always book a massage or pedicure for the first day. It will help get your mind into a more relaxed place.

Start off with a spa visit. Grab a good, mindless read, sit on the beach/patio/porch/hammock and get a drink in your hand asap. My vacation drink of choice is a pina colada. I never order them unless I'm on vacation and I never order too many because a hangover ruins even the best vacation Everything in the world feels right when the sun is shining down on me and there's a pina colada in my hand.

We do a lot of big international trips. We like to have four nights at our first destination so we can start relaxing right away and not think about the next stop. For us, we've learned that we don't like saving the highlight of the trip until the end. We like to do it at the outset so we live in the moment for the rest of the trip and aren't thinking about the next step. We worry less, too, about getting sick or whatever knowing we already saw the thing we had to see.

I also take a book I really want to read so in excited to get started on it. Or better yet, start it before you leave so it's calling out to you to finish!

You and I have a very different concept of 'vacation.'

I agree. This sounds awful.

Nope.

My family loves to fly cross country to the same vacation house each summer.

There is so much to do that we do different activities. We return to favorites, etc. it is very relaxing.

We usually go to 1 new destination as well for a 2nd vacay.

DH and I traveled extensively all around the world together prior to kids so vacations are about relaxing for now.
