Plantation Shutters

Another vote for loving them. One of the best upgrades we've made to our home.

Clean, classic, low maintenance, offers privacy, reduces heat in the summer months, easy to open and close.

My one complaint is that ours had to be built out ever so slightly due to having shallow windows in our older home. If furniture is places flush against them then we cannot swing open the doors conveniently or open and close the shutters without moving the furniture out a bit.

This only effects one of our windows, but it is something to consider.

We got ours from The Louver Shop, and it wasn't expensive. I think something like $3k for 12 windows. If I could do it again I would get wider louvers. Ours are about 2 inches and block too much light.

Not OP but would you find it offensive to see white traditional (3/4") bifold traditional shutters in an older home?

Our large windows are shallow too and yet I dislike the heavy box-like frame that accompanies modern 2" louvers needed due to shallow depth? Just skip them? Thanks.

We love our plantation shutters too!

We added them in the living and dining rooms and also on the sidelights beside our front door (I hated the old dusty sheers that were there before).

That is an incredible price. I did 12 windows in 2005 from NDB for $6500. Mine are 3 inch wide, with the balsa wood, except for 1 that is on the wall with a shower, which is vinyl. Our windows are very tall - 72-80 inches.

I like 4 1/2" with bifold (the bifold are not 4 1/2 ")

I bought my plantation shutters from Perfect Fit. I bought them about a year ago and they are holding up well. I really like my shutters. They are so much better than the curtains and blinds I had in other houses. I bought ones with the smaller sized louvres so that my cats couldn't slip their fat heads though them and break 'em.
