The point is that there are very little kids walking far from their school without enough supervision, in weather that is less than ideal |
I would respectfully disagree on a couple of counts. I cannot speak to the weather on the day the poster saw Huckleberry children at Rose Park. However, the distance was overstated by a significant margin so I would take his/her assessment of the weather with a grain of salt also.
I have a child that is a student at Huckleberry and with regards to safety, the children at Huckleberry are in a ropeline that goes around them. I see children from other programs (I do not know which ones) on ropelines on the streets of the city with a ropeline that goes down the middle that each has to hold onto, I think being on the inside of the rope is a significant safety factor, the children cannot break away. With regard to distance (again, leaving out the weather factor on the day in question), the distances are age appropriate. The 2-3 year old class walks to parks/playgrounds that are closer than the 3/4 year old class. I suggest talking with the owners/directors about their weather policy (I plan to). One of the directors has had 3 of her children in the program (one has graduated), so she is personally invested in when the kids go out. |
I am a parent at Huckleberry and I feel compelled to share my experience. We could not be happier. Everyday I feel so lucky that my DC is there.
My DC has been there since he was six months. We found the infant room to be wonderful and the incredible women who work there to be helpful, supportive and extremely caring. They were very considerate of my DC needs and helped this first time mother with valuable advice like when it was time to more to solids, etc. My DC is now in the next room where he is still being nurtured as he grows into a toddler. But the most important test is that my DC clearly loves his time at HC and is very happy there. As for the name, I think it is fun and it always brings a smile to my face when I say it. Finally, for those reading these posts, please give more weight to the comments made by parents actually at HC. As you will notice, all of these have been very positive. |
I am a parent at HC and want to address the OP's questions. First, yes my DS was in the infant room. As I said in my other post, we could not be happier with the care he got. Second, it is in a basement but most downtown daycare centers are. And they make a concerted effort to get the kids out everyday -- weather permitting. Third, in our experience, the wait list and the high cost is worth it. Everyday I am thankful that my DC is at HC. Finally, you can absolutely drop by during the day for feedings. My DH, who worked closer, would stop by everyday to see our DS when he was in the infant room. Hope this helps. |
