| I've had luck with the carter's and oshkosh french terry shorts and canvas shorts. All cargo shorts and mesh basketball shorts are going to look like gauchos on DS. He's currently in size 3T and yet his 12-18 mo Playtime Favorite gap jersey shorts are just now a reasonable length. |
I know!! I HATE that. They are ridiculous. Lands End is the only brand I can find that seems to have a decent length short. I'm willing to pay extra for a decent length pair of shorts for DD. She has two older brothers, and I'm noticing such a huge difference! (sorry to go OT) |
| We always liked the Old Navy ones with the elastic waistband. I think they're twill? Soft material, not too thick and not too long on my short kid. |
| Np here searching for some cute short shorts for my toddler son. Op did you find anything? Also where to find in swimwear? |
Walmart sells basketball shorts. If you're ok with your 2 year old looking like a thug, I guess that's fine. |
NP. Why so nasty? I haven't found any shorts I like at Walmart, but the basic Chico ones at Target are a shorter length, pull-on, thin material for the hot weather, and cheap ($4.50 each I think). Perfect for my toddler with short legs. I get him a few nicer things each season for times when I want him to look a little dressier, but for everyday play the Chico ones are perfect. |
Swimwear is on sale at Target right now, the pieces were buy one get one 50% off ($10 each, so $15 for two pieces) when I was there yesterday. Think it's also on sale at Old Navy. |
This is why DS, who is 3 yrs and 8 months, can still wear 18 month old shorts lol. They are now normal short length on him! Trials of a short kid. Anyway, my answer is I just have him wear the long shorts and then wait till the next year and they will be the right length

+1000. And wait until your dd is 10. It gets worse. |
| My trick has been to hold onto shorts from the year before. My 5.5 year old has worn some of the same shorts for 2-3 years. Between the adjustable waist, the switch out of diapers, and losing baby chub, they still fit. You may be able to snag some from clearance sections in a size smaller. |
| Look for the "prep" fit at Gymboree, crewcuts, heartstrings, and the cotton elastic waist (not basketball shorts) at children's place. Children's place can be inconsistent on length so always check. We have the same problem and I have looked everywhere. You can also try finding the seersucker elastic waist shorts mostly found in southern boutiques but there is a store in Georgetown that sells some but are way over priced compared to what my MIL pays for them in the south. You can also find them for a better price on Etsy. I like these because it's cuter then gym shorts but has the ease of an elastic waist for my 4yo. Good luck! |
| There are some great flat-front, adjustable waist shorts at Hanna Andersson. The length is shorter and the shorts wear like iron -- they're a heavy, but soft, khaki fabric. |
