Anushka/Annushka
Reva
Ira
Ria
Rina
Anissa
Hannie
Sarika

Boys-
Dara
Shaan/Shawn
Ram

Lots of good choices. In particular, love Anya, Annika and Ria. Maya is also lovely.

Most of these are not Hebrew names.

We are Om-Shalomers too!

My DH (the Jewish one) kept trying to convince me of Seth. He said it was Indian, but I vetoed it.

I love Avi but the pronunciation is different. I like the Hindi pronunciation Uvi, but the Hebrew pronunciation is Aavi.

We ended up going with an Indian name since he got the Jewish last name.

This is already on your list but I think Mira is perfect for this combo.

The Hebrew word/name is SimCHa ("ch" pronounced as in Chanukah or challah, not chicken). Most non-Jews in America can't pronounce "ch" names correctly because we don't have that sound in English.

Mira is the only name I like.

Since this thread is 2 years old, OP has probably already picked a name.

I love this name, but literally every Hindu-Jewish couple I know that has a girl has a Mira/Meera/Mirah (5 of them, none of whom know each other!).

OP, what'd you name your baby??

Ruhi. Means my soul, wind, air in both Hindi and Hebrew. It's also my wife's niece (who's Hindu... I'm Jewish)

Sorry if this sounds patronising, but I love that you have made such a baby. My DH I have given birth to four Carribean-jewish babies over the last 7 years. May the world cultural blending continue.

Mira is an absolutely beautiful name.

Looking ideally for names that are actually used by both Jews and Indians, not just names from one culture that 'are also words' in another.

I see a metric fuckton of south asian/jewish couples around DC, so I can't be the only person pondering this question. ;p

Of the girl names you have here, Mira and Neta are the most perfect names ever. Mira<Neta. Among the boys names the reality is do you want to have your son go through life with the world seeing him as a jewish boy or not. Because a boy with this sort of heritage and appearance will be seen a jewish boy...which is fine, because I have this sort of combination, but let's be real, here. >

(pressed "submit" too soon). I meant to add if you go with "Avi".
