Boston is great, Cambridge too (try The Irving House), I don't know per towns but Mount Washington/Tuckerman's Ravine area in NH, Green Mountains in VT (better in fall)
Mystic is a pleasant stopover esp. if you take the ferry from Orient on Long Island Acadia National Park in Maine is like Yosemite on the ocean. If you can't find accomodations you like in Bar Harbor or Sommes Sound area, try Stonington or Ellsworth. |
| Dartmouth College has an outdoors club, if you join, you can rent cabins through them for very cheap. The one on Lake Armington is only 50 yards walk from the parking area and has a canoe, there is a beaver lodge on the lake. http://outdoors.dartmouth.edu/services/cabins/descriptions.html |
| My vote for Burlington. Love that town! |
Why? Because they are wealthy? |

Marblehead, MA
www.wednesdaysinmhd.com Beautiful town! |
PP from Duxbury here... Why? Where are you from? Marshfield? |
If you are in the Hanover area, definitely head over to the Montshire, VT to the children's museum, it's great! http://www.montshire.org |
From Pembroke. I hated them for a combination of them being wealthier than me and them ending my soccer team's 14 game win streak. Super rational reasons, I know. |
I thought you were from Marshfield because that seemed to be the big rival when I lived there (1980s.) When our bridge (to the beach) burned down, rumor was it was the Marshfield kids who set the fire! |
| Marblehead MA. So pretty. |
| Any thoughts on towns near the green mountains national forest? Bennington? |
Bennington is nice. Woodstock is my favorite. S Manchester has great outlet shopping. In MA I'd go to Lenox. Williamstown is worth a visit and there are several art museums up there. The cafe at the Clark just got written up in the WSJ. |
| No such trip would be complete without a visit to the Haht of the Commonweath with a special emphasis on the Blackstone Canal. |
| We are planning on Woodstock but any other towns south of there worth stopping? |
Weston maybe? It's where the Vermont Country Store is based. |
