| We also just received notice that our county assessment in MoCo went down and that our taxes would decrease as well (in Chevy Chase). If your taxes don't go down, you can appeal, as a PP stated. Taxes are high, but schools are good and that's what you're paying for. It's still cheaper than private school. |
| Also in MoCo - we were reassessed last year, and our assessment value went down, as did our taxes. Supposedly a friend of mine in the same neighborhood appealed their assessment several years ago and was successful - but the climate may have changed since then. Obviously, the county is strapped, so it may be harder to lower the assessed value... |
| our assessment went down 10%. We appealed a too high assessment three years ago and lost (we didn't have good comps). My parents, a mile away, appealed at the same time and won a reduction. If you buy in MoCo, what you pay for the property is the new assessment value. They say the assessment should match market value. What is a better measure of market value than selling price? |
Not true at all. We just got reassessed and our assessment went down significantly. We live in North Bethesda for what its worth. |
