Just hope the site doesn't crash.

The ad/disadvantage of online (verse standing in line) is that it really opens it up to the country (everyone from tourists to folks outside the metro area like WVA) so your chances may be a little tougher of getting a ticket.

I think you and the rest of the zillion wantabees are going to be frozen at the computer at 1159pm on Wed. night trying to enter the site.

Good luck though.

It is going to be a lottery system. So it doesn't matter what time you log in to the site, you are just putting in a request for tickets. Then, at a later time, you will get an email from the White House letting you know whether or not you got the tickets. So I don't think you have to worry about the website being crashed all day.

so how exactly will it work? we go to the link posted in the original message to enter our names for a lottery?

where do people see it will be a lottery?

How do you know it's a lottery? I didn't see that on the website.

Where are you seeing it is a lottery system? I just read the info at the website twice and see that nowhere.

Ticketing
For the first time, public tickets for the 2009 White House Easter Egg Roll will be distributed online. Ticketing will be available here beginning Thursday, March 26th.

The tickets, which are timed for entrance and exit to the South Lawn, will be emailed to each confirmed guest and the original must be printed and presented to gain entry to the South Lawn. A maximum of six tickets will be issued per order. Children age ten and under, along with their families are invited to attend. There must be at least one child ten years old or under and no more than two adults per group. Tickets are required for every attendee, including small children and infants, to enter the South Lawn of the White House.

Thank you for confirming, PP.

I would guess that this year they moved to an online system because of security concerns.

UPDATE:

Some news places are now reporting that it will not be a lottery, but rather first come first serve. See link to retraction.

What gets me is that it says "...the time of day that the Web site will begin accepting ticket requests is not yet available."

Ummm...its tomorrow people...how long are you going to wait to tell us???

I just called the White House switchboard line and the woman on the phone told me they have not set a time yet. I asked her if it was going to be at midnight and she said "no they are thinking about 7 or 8 in the morning". Not much info but at least we all won't have to stay up late for nothing.

Nothing up. It's 12:13 on 3/26. I called White House switchboard too a few minutes ago. They said they didn't know for sure, but advised site would be up around 7 or 8. Drawing is random, not first come first serve. Good luck!
