You're going to have to get a series of rabies shots - it's like 4 shots and not fun. My co-worker just had to do this due to a bat in her house.

Get the shots. Rabies is universally fatal. I.e. if a rapid bat bit you, you will die.

Wow,really? A bat flew into my hair once, oh, about 20 years ago. I just batted it away and went about my business. No one ever thought about rabies. Boy times change.

This. Shots are easy/peasy. Just inconvenience of having to go the hospital to get them.

When I got rabies vaccine, I had to get it from the county health department, who then gave me the 5 injection vials to be done by my doctor in subsequent weeks.

My sister woke up and a bat was in her bedroom, and she indeed had to get the rabies shot series.

Yep, I had to do this, too. Apparently there was a case where a bat was found in the room of a sleeping girl. She died of rabies some time later. Apparently bat bites are so light that you could be bitten while you're asleep and not wake up. I believe the recommendation is also to get rabies shots if you're drunk and there's a bat in the room with you. CDC is a good source of info on all this.

My doc is in Maryland and she said if we were MoCo residents, we could get the serum at the county health department and bring it to her office for them to give us the shots. But we are DC residents and had to go to the emergency room. We went to Sibley and the whole process was pretty easy. We got the follow up shots at the infusion center there.
