E cigarettes or vape pens. Heat up and smoke aerosolized flavored nicotine. Or pot. Maybe other drugs, I don't know. Either is or soon will be illegal to vape in public places in MoCo. Illegal to sell vape pens or e cigarettes to kids. But they get them off the internet or from older friends.

You are inhaling Glycerin or Propylene glycol or whatever the next chemical they come up with that is cheap and people are willing to inhale into their lungs with no testing.

Illegal to sell to "kids" is questionable. You can order them online and my son's friends have never been carded at Montgomery Mall.

It is illegal to use or possess a tobacco product if you are a minor in Maryland and may be issued a criminal citation:

http://law.justia.com/codes/maryland/2005/gcr/10-108.html

This is not considered a tobacco product, so the only law on the books, in MD at least, seems to be a law prohibiting sale and subjecting retailer to $1000 fine per sale(and MD should start doing stings on that...)

Md. HEALTH-GENERAL Code Ann. § 24-305 (2014)

And prohibiting smoking - but smoking is generally defined as a burning tobacco product, which this is not.

There is no criminal law against possession.

To me, vaping is like smoking, and I do not approve of either.

DS vapes when he's with some of his friends. He only does it occasionally and, honestly, of all the things he could be doing we're OK with it. Even teens need some kind of vice.

No, absolutely not. I have my asthma under control by avoiding vaping and smoke from cigarettes, marijuana, etc. The kids all know how sensitive I am to smoke (and the smell of alcohol), and while they know that they can always call me for a ride if it's a choice between being in the car with someone who is under the influence of something, they know that I'm not going to be happy if I have an attack due to their poor choices. So far (fingers crossed), I've picked up one child from a party that she didn't know would involve drinking and picked up another when his ride started drinking (he hadn't been drinking, thank goodness!). In both cases, the kids asked me to bring along a set of clothes for them as people were smoking/vaping and they changed at the first gas station we found, we rode with the windows down even though it was below freezing and the kids showered as soon as we got home. Both are good kids, and both have decided to go slower with the party scene, which is fine by me!

I wish I could say no, but I just found out both my sons are doing it.

+1. My opinion on vaping is well known in my house: Instant IQ test. And not in a good way.

This didn’t age well!

Your kid can end up with severe lung damage. It’s nasty stuff.

No, it's gross. I don't approve but I'm not naive to think that my kids haven't tried it.

Like any vice, far more of our kids have done it or do it than any of us think.

I vape and I tell my children how bad it is. They are young elementary aged. I hope I can kick the habit before they are teens, I don't want to be a bad example. But I think it's way better than what I've done in the past (getting drunk, taking prescribed Klonopin every day, cigarettes).

Now if it was a THC vape? I plan on educating them about how thc is not good for developing brains. But I have smoked weed every day since I was 17, and I turned out to be alright, so I wouldn't fuss about it too much. Once they are 18 I wouldn't mind smoking with them either if they are already doing it all the time.

I would not allow this. Vaping is so bad for health.

No smoking, drinking etc when still living in my house.

Meanwhile I told my kid I’d rather they do almost anything else (that doesn’t endanger others) than vape.

If he vapes nicotine chance are extremely high he isn’t doing it “only occasionally”— nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs out there.
