Where do people who work in Suitland (MD) usually live?

Rockville is a long commute from Suitland. I wouldn't advise this as an option.

It's a 15 min drive from DC reverse commute? Would you take a job downtown?

That's not true. PG has many highly rated elementary schools, middle school and high school are where the problems are. Specifically there are some highly rated elementary schools in Bowie, such as Heather Hills which has a great schools rating of 10.

And even more horribly rated ones

I commute there from Alexandria (Fairfax county). Schools are good and the commute goes against traffic so it's a piece of cake.

You posted before about the job change with a longer commute. It's good you are looking to move, but I think you are not going to find a magic answer beyond those in that thread. People in suitland either commute far or live in Burke, Alexandria, etc.

I would not recommend living in Suitland. If you are going to be working at the Census Bureau, it is Metro accessible so that leaves a lot of options. You could choose Alexandria, Bowie, Upper Marlboro or SW DC.

With Bowie and UM, you could just drive to work. Metro won't really help.

I have two friends at Census. One lives in Edgewater in a lovely neighborhood on a golf course. The other is in Fairfax.

My husband works in Suitland. We live in North Potomac. He takes the ICC usually and his commute is 1 hr. It is not too bad when you consider that he can telework twice a week. Other people he works with live in Columbia, Arlington and Alexandria.

Well, OP, I live in PG county and you have to do the math. If you are interested in thinking about living in PG county do you have the discipline to buy a lower cost home near a good elementary and save money in order to pay for private later or move again? We did this math and we chose PG, not to mention the commute will be much better to just live near your job. A house near a good elementary in Bowie will be 400k, compared to a similar house in Virginia or Moco which will be 800k. That math worked out for us, and I am actually very happy where I live. People are friendly, we are close to amenities, our commutes are good, it's not as crowded. I feel I made the right decision.

Both of my parents worked in Suitland when I was a kid. We lived in the Rosemont neighborhood of Alex City (next to Old Town&Del Ray, though at the time Del Ray was not the place it is today).

I live in Upper Marlboro and would love to work in Suitland. I'm schlepping it to NW DC now
