Alternative to cropped/capri pants?

Not a fan of linen in the heat, either, if you sweat. I took some for a trip to the middle east during the summer, because natural fabrics are much cooler. Linen was a wrinkly, wet mess. Cotton was much kinder.

OP here again. Thanks for the suggestions. Will keep my eye out for some loose, flowing type pants this summer, but you know there are just some days here in DC when anything that goes all the way down to the ankle is just too hot. One PP said to dress for your body type, and I think this is really what I need to focus on. WHile I may be on short side, I really do feel that the cropped pants that come just above the ankle and are loose fitting from the thigh down are flattering on me, as I am short but my legs are longer for my body (i.e. some petite sized pants are too short for me). I will continue wearing those and the longer shorts that hit right at or below the knee. I think what I need to steer clear from are the capris that hit at mid calf -- those seem to really chop my legs off and make me look stumpy. I am also lucky in that while I HATE my legs, I have a pretty decent upper body (somewhat trim mid section and toned arms and shoulders, esp. if I'm working out), so I can wear tank tops relatively easily. Ah, the fashion dilemmas we face!
