Planting lavender

You're welcome, and good luck! I love lavender, and it can do pretty well here with some care.

If you're going to do some reading, a couple of helpful books for this region are The Virginia Gardener's Guide, and The Washington Post Garden Book (this one is by the WP's gardening expert Adrian Higgins).

good drainage = lots of sand in the soil, like incredible amounts
rich = don't add any humus, peat, manure or fertilizer or anything which enriches the soil, or even nice rice top soil. It just wants a sandy soil.
