Do you spray to keep weeds out? I have a few dandelions and i am thinking of combo spading and spot spraying. Will it work?

Np, after 8 years my front yard looks really good. I neglected the front yard for the first 6 years. All I did was core aerate, add lime the past 2 years overseed with Lesco starter fertilizer early spring and fall, use Scott's preventive weed fertilizer by early April and fertilize again Memorial Day weekend and winterized in November.

Did you rent a machine or hire someone? If rent d, where from and how much? When do you do it!

PP here, I bought a manual core aerator, $30. Basically looks like a long horseshoe which you step on and two stakes go into the ground and takes out about 3 inches of soil. My front yard is only 40' x 20'. I also had to invest in a drop spreader which is like $30. But my backyard neighbors are envious and give me compliments on my yard. I will try to post a picture tomorrow for motivation.

I have aerated prior to oversee ding, so early spring and fall.

How do you know whether you need to add lime? Do all lawns need lime? How much do you use?

Well if you are not getting grass to germinate, your soil may benefitmfrom lime. If you have established and thick green grass then lime may be unnecessary. I use a drop spreader which the lime bag should have appropriate spread rating.
