Ongoing argument - DH doesn't understand sanitation and is bringing sh*t into our kitchen!

Yes and surgical instruments too! Just boil the dang thing.

E.g., in handling raw chicken or fish, he'll often touch other things without washing his hands first in the kitchen - like cabinet knobs, counters, etc. He'll also not careful about fresh food not touching food that will not be cooked.

But the latest is that after cleaning the cat litter box with a scrub brush - he proceeded to boil the sh*t brush in one of our stainless steel cooking pots! I flipped out - and he's claiming that I'm crazy because boiling will clean everything. I'm absolutely disgusted because he doesn't seem to abide by a basic social / hygenic norm that sh*t does NOT belong in the kitchen or near food. I'm also pissed that I share a household with this fool.

We have two young kids, and these are not habits that I want them to think are ok.

Real question is - do I throw out the pot? It is an all-clad pot, so not cheap.

Do not let him handle meat. That's what I do.

I would do it just to mess with you, OP.

Give me your All-Clad pot, then

Another biologist here - boiling will kill bacteria in cat litter! Which is not to say that it's socially acceptable to use your pots and kitchen as a disinfecting workbench.

No handling raw food and touching other things at the same time.

No way would I eat anything from that pot.

I would briefly consider throwing out the pot, then realize that I didn't want to. So even though I realize that the germs are killed, in order to be able to use the pot again I would go through a series of disinfecting and repeated cleansing rituals involving bleach, boiling water, and perhaps the dishwasher.

And tell him you're becoming vegetarian if he refuses to follow basic safe food handling rules.

OP, I do not think you are overreacting. Poo drives me nuts! I would probably lose it too if I saw a brush used in the litter box in the kitchen, even if I realized it was sterilized. It just does not belong in the kitchen.

Y'all realize the cat walks around the house after using the litter box, right?

Your house is filthy and it isn't due to your husband.

All the other things you mentioned, you are right.

So had your SO done this, would you then use said pot to make yourself a meal? Genuinely curious.

Yes, and some of them are on the counters etc. Or sitting on your lap.

Yuck the cat brush is just gross.

Even if boiling kills any germs, it is still gross in theory.

I do not blame you.

Doesn't he know the "golden" rule?

Do not sh#% where you eat. Duh.

The golden rule is to treat others how you want to be treated. Duh.

OP, it is you who come across as idiotic.

As others said boiling is how one sterilizes various things and your cat is bringing all sorts of crap on to the floors and wherever its paws touch. The reason why one would not use the same brush has more to do with convenience and social norms as well as the personal ick factor.

The raw chicken point is valid.

As an aside, if you knew what went on in the kitchens of even the better restaurants you'd probably never eat the food served there.

Gross. I wouldn't throw it out, but I'd run it through the dishwasher a few times.

Hahaha!

People are so atupid. OP probably has poo everywhere. On her clothes, sofa, and covering her clothes. That porn is probably the cleanest thing in her home.
