| ^pp, sorry, I just realized I responded to a 2 1/2 year old post. |

Puppies are not human babies and their fragile areas are not the same. Don't tug on the leash, you can crush or damage their windpipe. But they can fall off the bed no problem. |
| My 2 month old teacup chihuahua fell of the 2ft high bed and I don’t know how to tell if she is ok. He’s walking fine, and sleeping ok. How can I tell? |
| I see you've attached this to an old thread which will confuse people, but your puppy is fine. |
| Puppy will be fine. And it's perfectly ok for her to sleep with you if it means you are getting sleep. You can transition to a crate later. We raise and train German Shepherds and always let puppies sleep in our bed. It's the only way anyone gets sleep. They stop sleeping with us once they are secure in their new environment. |
| My 35 days German shepherd fell down from bed and I observe she’s is not walking properly after 10 minutes and then she went to sleep. Do I need to give her any medicine or should I take her to the doctor? |
same - we love when our dog sleeps in bed. unfortunately he usually skedaddles as soon as my husband comes to bed (i go to sleep first) because dh is so fidgety.
i think your puppy is fine. just keep an eye on her and if anything seems wrong call your vet. also congrats on the new addition - dogs are the absolute best. |

When we got our 8wk old shepherd home, he cried all night the first night in his crate. Even seemed to be learning to howl. By the second night, he cried some, but not as much. By the third night, hardly a peep. Eventually, we moved the crate to the room next to ours. Eight years later, he loves his crate, and goes in willingly every night.
What helped initially is that we had the crate right next to our bed. We also put a couple of our t-shirts in the crate, since apparently human scent is supposed to help when crate training. Finally, at some point we draped the crate with sheets, to try to make it den-like. We tried CIO with our human baby, who came the following year, and it went well--I think partly due to our experience crate-training the pup.
I'd give it a try again, but only if you're willing to stick with it this time. Going back and forth between crate and your bed will be more stressful for the puppy, IMO. Good luck! |
Yes - not walking properly is scary. I would call the vet ASAP! |
| See my 2 month old German Shepherd I suppose fell off the bed last night, either that or I could have let her off but ever since this morning she’s been falling over so I’m pretty sure she did fall off and my bed is pretty high off the ground, no carpets or rug to catch her. I’m very concerned but at the same time not because it’s not her first time. I’m thinking about taking her to the vet |
| What is it with German shepherd puppies not able to walk properly after falling off the bed? Anyway I would take your dog to the vet and get him checked out |
| She's not a human infant, OP, and most probably has not hurt herself at all. |
They have weak hips from improper breeding. I mean a lot of it is on purpose but like so many pure breeds, there are physical drawbacks. |
| She's fine. |
| My 4 week old puppy fell off the bed three times because she walked to the edge and no one noticed and landed belly first and is shaking uncontrollably when asleep, should I be worried? She seems fine when she’s awake but when she’s asleep that’s when I worry most. |
