Best catholic in the DC area?

Cut the jesuit bull shit.

Gonzaga is not in the same sentence as Geprgetown Prep when it comes to academics.

Academically it's on par and probably a little better than St zjohn.

Interesting that you post the question, but have not seen the 4m threads on all these schools. I suspect this is bait.

For a general perception (which is never 100% true since every school has a variety of students of course):
St. Anselm has the academic (okay, I'll say it - nerdy) boys
Prep has the rich boys
Gonzaga has the less rich boys mixed with the city boys
DeMatha has the artsy and jock boys
SJC has an even bit of everything

All have changed quite a bit in the past decade much less two so ignore anyone speaking from their own experience. They are referring to schools of the past.

Academically: St. Anselms, GP, GZ, SJC (unless your in scholars program then it's just as good as GZ or GP), and Dematha.
Sports: Dematha, SJC/GZ, GP, St. Anselms
St. Anselms is way behind the other schools in sports. Even GP is pretty far behind thise three other schools. Dematha is a sports power house. While GZ and SJC are both sports power houses to buy just not as much.

Though I think SJC with the influx of money is quickly catching up to if not surpassing GZ now. Plus it has girls. Their girl sports are very impressive.

Sorry, but you are wrong. Gonzaga is actually a better school than GP looking at the big picture. Academics is not the only thing that it has going for it. It is more diverse and the boys get exposure to the city and serve meals to the homeless daily. It is a school that truly lives by the "Men for Others" philosophy. I'm not saying GP is not a good school, it is just homogenous in its student population.

Also, it is clear from your writing, that you didn't go to either school as you don't know how to spell.

i believe that your son will need to visit the schools.
My DS was accepted in both GP and GZ, but he selected GZ because he loved the shadow and the environment there.

The Heights is an extremely rigorous classical education (great books, liberal arts, etc).

What about the girls schools?
I know Visi is typically up there, but what about their sports since they don't play in the WCAC? What's a good girls academics/sports school? AHC? E. Seton? Thoughts?

St. Anselm's is the most rigorous for academics, but the student body tends to be quite introverted and nerdy, so not a good cultural fit for everyone. But, the silver lining is that almost anyone can make a sports team at St. Anselm's, but it is hard to play at GZ or SJC or DeMatha if one is not a gifted athlete.

After St. Anselm's, GP, GZ, and SJC all have similar academics. SJC has a broader range of academic abilities (including a program for kids with learning disabilities), but the top students at all 3 of these schools will have similar characteristics.

Gonzaga is not on the same academic page as Prep.

Of the zillion posts on this topic - this one is the most accurate. You can argue the particulars but this is pretty spot on.
